[아시아뉴스통신=조날드 타파난 기자] A senior military officer died at the V. Luna Medical Hospital in Quezon City while exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Marine Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo said.
"We have yet to receive official medical reports that would reveal the cause of death other than the erstwhile symptoms suggest Covid-19," he added in a statement to reporters. As of August 8, the AFP has reported that 1,137 of its personnel have become infected with the dreaded disease.
Of this figure, 516 have been cleared and reported back to duty, 138 have recovered and are waiting for their medical clearances, 473 are considered active cases, and 10 have succumbed to the disease. He added that the AFP cannot afford to fail on its mission of keeping peace and security during this difficult time.
