[Asia News Communication = Reporter Reakkana] Three month-old baby named River, the child of political detainee Reina Mae Nasino, is in critical condition after being admitted to the hospital for showing symptoms of COVID-19. Since August 13, the baby has been in the care of her grandmother as the Trial Court directed the baby’s separation from her mother despite pleas that separating a nearly month-old child from her parent could be bad to the infant’s health.

The child has been taken to the hospital several times due to diarrhea and fever. Although she tested negative for COVID-19, her condition worsened. The infant is at an Intensive Care Unit and doesn't respond to antibiotics shared  Fides Lim, Kapatid spokesperson said. Doctors said Reina should visit her baby while she is still alive.

Before the court’s order, Nasino and her baby stayed in the detention facility for pregnant, senior citizens with hypertension, women suffering from epilepsy, asthma, and congestive heart diseases. But the Manila Court ruled that prison isn’t a place for a baby especially since the country is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, Police raided on Tuesday the office of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) in Manila and arrested three activists including Reina Mae Nasino for alleged possession of guns and an explosive.
