[아시아뉴스통신=레악카나 기자] Chinese President Xi Jinping vowed to give further support and help to Butuka Academy, a China-aided school in Papua New Guinea (PNG)'s capital Port Moresby. Xi made the promise recently in a letter to the academy in which he said he's glad to see the resumption of classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chinese president pleasantly recalled his attendance at the academy's opening ceremony during his visit to Papua New Guinea in 2018 and noted the academy's achievements. In a letter sent to Xi earlier, Butuka Academy expressed gratitude for his support of the academy's development, and spoke highly of China's contribution to promoting international cooperation in the global fight against COVID-19.

Thanks to China's help, the letter said, the academy has overcome the impact of the pandemic and resumed classes. Butuka Academy, or its full name "PNG and China Friendship School – Butuka Academy" is a China-aided project for benefiting locals. With a kindergarten, a primary school and a middle school, the facility can serve up to 3,000 PNG students. The Chinese president attended the academy's opening ceremony in November 2018.
