[아시아뉴스통신=페이 기자] The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Region 3 (Central Luzon) distributed on Tuesday some 130,000 tilapia fingerlings to help fisherfolk cope with the health crisis. Recipients of the sex-reversed GET EXCEL tilapia fingerlings were selected fisherfolk in the towns of Porac and Sta. Ana and Mabalacat City.
Out of the total number of fingerlings, the BFAR gave 30,000 to fishermen in Porac, 60,000 in Sta. Ana and 40,000 to Mabalacat City. BFAR-3 head Wilfredo Cruz said the fingerling assistance is under the “Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat Kontra sa COVID-19 ” (ALPAS) program.

Cruz said one of the main objectives of ALPAS is to help the fisherfolk recover the losses they incurred after being locked down for months due to COVID-19.

Last August 19, BFAR also dispersed 50,000 saline tilapia fingerlings to selected fisherfolk in the coastal town of Sasmuan. Under its "Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa" or BASIL program, BFAR conducted a stocking activity last July 29 in Sapang Bayabas River in Barangay Mawacat, Floridablanca to help indigenous people in the community who are generally dependent on the river of their livelihood.
