The animated feature sequel to “The Croods” is finally back on the release calendar after Universal Pictures revived the film and scheduled it for a 2020 release.

Almost a year prior to the announcement, “The Croods 2” movie which was created by Dreamworks Animation was taken off calendar release after Universal acquired the animation company.

In a report by thewrap.com, it was explained that upon the merger of both companies, the animated feature will now be revived as a film by Universal and is expected to be shown to the audience on September 18, 2020.

The cast of the original film which includes Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener, Cloris Leachman, and Clark Duke, is also expected to make a return in the sequel which will also feature Leslie Mann. In this sequel, the story continues the journey of the caveman family known as the Croods who will meet another family in which the character of Mann belongs.

In 2014, “The Croods” was nominated for best-animated film at the Academy Awards. However, Disney’s “Frozen” managed to edge out its competitors and won the title of best animated film of the year.

Aside from “The Croods 2,” the report also mentioned that another film by Dreamworks Animation is set for release.

Universal announced that it will be releasing a “Spooky Jack” film which is targeted for release in September of 2021. The movie is said to feature three siblings who will live in a house full of paranormal creatures. “Spooky Jack” is a film written by “Night at the Museum” writer Robert Ben Garant, and produced by Dreamworks’ Damon Ross.

The films will be shown as a standalone film on its targeted release date without any major competitions, an additional report by deadline.com showed.
