[아시아뉴스통신=페이 기자] Drivers of public utility vehicles in Central Visayas who will allow passengers to board without wearing face shields will be apprehended starting August 15, a transport official said. Eduardo Montealto Jr., Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-7 regional director, said the agency has prescribed the wearing of face shields for the passengers as a way to enhance the health protocols to prevent COVID-19 transmission in public transport.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) earlier this week issued a memorandum setting the new guidelines in the public transport on August 15. He also said memorandum circular number 2020-033 of the LTFRB amended its earlier issuance, deleting the portion allowing eye protector as an alternative to the face shield.

He said the policy is addressed most especially to the drivers who are obliged under the new measure to require his passengers to wear face shields before boarding. Violators will face the usual fine of erring drivers PHP5,000 for the first offense, PHP10,000 for the second, and PHP15,000 plus impoundment and cancellation of their franchise for the third offense, he said.
