종들아, 네 발에서 신을 벗으라(출 3:1-10)
“하나님이 가라사대 이리로 가까이 하지 말라 너의 선 곳은 거룩한 땅이니 네 발에서 신을 벗으라”(출 3:5).
자기의 의가 다 깨어진 자라야 부활의 주님을 만납니다.
40년 동안 애굽의 왕자로 살았던 모세의 의가 40년 동안 미디안 광야에서 가축을 치면서 모두 깨어졌습니다.
자기가 얼마나 쓸모없고 비참한 존재인지를 깨달아야 전적으로 하나님의 은혜를 입습니다.
“너의 선 곳은 거룩한 땅이니 네 발에서 신을 벗으라”(출 3:5)
하나님께서 임재하시는 곳에서 구원의 은혜를 입은 사람은 이제부터 하나님의 종이 될 수 있습니다.
그리고 하나님의 종이 되는 것이 가장 복된 삶입니다.
종은 전적으로 주인의 뜻과 주인의 유익을 먼저 구합니다.
그러려면 종은 자기의 생각, 자기의 유익, 자기의 계획을 벗어버려야 합니다.
“나는 날마다 죽노라”(고전 15:31)고 고백했던 바울처럼, 그리스도의 종은 자기를 부인하고 자기의 십자가를 지고 주님을 좇습니다.
“이제 내가 너를 바로에게 보내어 너로 내 백성 이스라엘 자손을 애굽에서 인도하여 내게 하리라”(출 3:10).
모세에게 주신 사명이 그리스도의 종들에게 주신 사명입니다.
하나님의 종들은 죄의 옥에 갇혀 있는 백성들을 해방시켜서 거룩한 곳, 즉 하나님의 교회로 인도하는 것입니다.
종들은 주인 되신 주님의 뜻이 성취되기만을 원합니다.
“우리가 살아도 주를 위하여 살고 죽어도 주를 위하여 죽나니 그러므로 사나 죽으나 우리가 주의 것이로라”(롬 14:8).
Servants, take off your sandals from your feet (Ex 3:1-10)
“Then He said, ‘Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground’” (Ex 3:5).
Only those who have broken all their righteousness can meet the Lord of the Resurrection.
Moses’ righteousness, which he had piled up as a prince in Egypt for 40 years, was broken while shepherding cattle in the wilderness of Midian for 40 years.
Only when he realized how useless and wretched he was, he could not but rely wholly on God’s mercy.
“Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground” (Ex 3:5).
A person who has received the grace of salvation in the presence of God can become God’s servant from now on.
And being a servant of God is the most blessed life.
A bondservant seeks the master’s will and interests thoroughly.
A faithful bondservant forsakes his own thoughts, interests, and plans.
Like Paul, who confessed, “I die daily” (1 Cor 15:31), a good servant of Christ denies himself, takes up his cross, and follows the Lord.
“Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt” (Ex 3:10).
The mission given to Moses is the same mission given to the servants of Christ.
God’s servants free the people from the prison of sin and lead them to the holy place, the Church of God.
Servants only want the Lord’s will to be accomplished.
“For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s” (Rom 14:8).
